Architectural finishing and external facades for Mumbai Metro Line-2A

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) entrusted Godrej Interio Projects with the architectural finishing of five elevated metro stations and the external façade work for nine stations along Line 2A (Yellow Line), extending from Dahisar to DN Nagar.

Leveraging Godrej & Boyce’s legacy of engineering excellence and a resilient supply chain, maintained even through the pandemic, we successfully met MMRDA’s expectations, delivering high-quality infrastructure within tight timelines.

The design of the metro stations spanned three distinct levels: street level, concourse level, and platform level. Each level was constructed with careful attention to both functionality and aesthetics. Key construction milestones included the installation of over 300,000 square feet of granite flooring, the erection of 200 metric tonnes of stainless steel railings, and the use of 380 metric tonnes of steel for structural fabrication. For the external facades, approximately 1,800 metric tonnes of MS steel were used in fabrication, along with 480 metric tonnes of plaster. Additionally, more than 400,000 square feet of façade louvres were installed, contributing to both the structural form and the visual identity of the metro line.

Despite the challenges posed by the curved structure, the team successfully adhered to the committed timelines. Architectural finishing was completed by 31st March 2022, while the external façade work was finished and inaugurated on 5th February 2022. The team was praised for their exceptional work quality, effective communication, technical expertise, resourcefulness, and professional conduct throughout the project.
