Modernisation of Chennai Airport: Blending modern technology with rich cultural heritage

In 2020, Godrej Interio embarked on a significant journey: The modernisation of Chennai Airport, Phase 2. Our mission was clear: to equip the New Integrated Terminal Building with cutting-edge infrastructure and exceptional passenger facilities, while seamlessly integrating the vibrant South Indian culture into the heart of the design.

Our team took charge of designing and constructing key areas within the New Integrated Terminal Building, including the baggage claim area, arrival terminal, and check-in terminals. The design featured gleaming champagne-finished columns and large, custom-made stretch fabric luminaries, paired with vibrant check-in counters, all working together to create a modern and welcoming atmosphere. In the departure area, elegant tree columns, with their understated symbolism, offered a deeper cultural resonance, providing a visually unique experience.

We also introduced a stunning glass partition adorned with Kolam patterns, an iconic art form of Tamil Nadu, inviting visitors to enjoy an unobstructed view of the airside. To further enrich the space, we curated a collection of exquisite artworks, allowing travellers to immerse themselves in the region's rich cultural heritage. This project reflected our dedication to designing spaces that not only serve their purpose but also tell a meaningful story, leaving a lasting cultural legacy.

The transformed terminal, which was inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2023, has since been operational, captivating travellers with its mesmerising blend of modernity and cultural richness. We take immense pride in contributing to this historical milestone.
