Where I Create
Children’s book illustrator Eureka Alphonso shows us around her studio in Mumbai, where we see the little things that make her nooks, her own.

WHAT’S IN
WHAT’S IN THIS NOOK?
An illustrator’s happy place
Soft corners and books by colour
Collected curios that delight
THIS NOOK?
For the arrangement of the space I actually took a cue from the size of the walls to decide what goes where and also where I would get the most light. I decided on what one would see first when they came into the studio, and in this case, it would be the bookcase.

A transformation: From bare bones to fully furnished.

It is a 120sq ft space, and perfectly fits a world of my own.

My workspace is constantly evolving to meet my changing needs. Currently, I have adjusted my desk position to face my south-facing window, allowing me to catch the journey of the winter sun and to work alongside my husband, who works behind me on days he doesn’t go to his own office.

My favourite part of the studio has to be my bookshelf. I have carefully curated and colour-coordinated my books, and each one is so special to me. I use them for reference; and it has slowly morphed into a shrine of all the things I adore.
