Every bed has a story. Long before it became part of your bedroom, the wood that forms your bed was shaped by nature. And unlike many materials, it develops even more character with time. Here’s what it takes to help that story last for years to come.

How to Care for Your Wooden Bed: Simple Ways to Preserve Its Natural Beauty

Your wooden bed is where nature meets home. With the right care, it continues to develop the warmth and character that make wooden furniture so enduring. Here are a few expert tips to help preserve its natural beauty for years to come.

Regular Care for Lasting Character

Every piece of wood is unique, with its own grain, texture, and natural characteristics. Whether your bed is crafted from solid wood such as pine or oak, MDF, or laminated plywood, following the manufacturer’s care recommendations will help you choose the right cleaning products and maintain its finish for years to come.

Regular care:

  • Dust every week or two using a soft microfibre cloth.

  • Wipe in the direction of the wood grain to avoid fine scratches.

  • Clean spills immediately with a soft, absorbent cloth.

  • For routine cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, then dry the surface straight away.

  • Avoid bleach, ammonia and silicone-based cleaners, which can damage the protective finish.

  • If you prefer a natural product, a mixture of two parts olive oil and one part lemon juice can gently lift dust while restoring the wood’s natural sheen. Always test it on a small hidden area first.

Periodic care:

  • Once a year, remove the mattress and give the frame, mattress base, and headboard a thorough clean, paying extra attention to dust-collecting corners.

  • Don’t forget your mattress. Vacuuming it every three to six months helps create a fresher sleeping environment while protecting one of the hardest-working pieces of furniture in your home.
